Two New Research Assistants for Ornithology Group

UCC Ornithology Group welcomes Dr Jodie Crane and Dr Iván de la Hera Fernandez who recently became Research Assistants on an ERC grant “The evolutionary ecology of cognition across a heterogeneous landscape” with Professor John Quinn.

Jodie’s primary research interest is in bioacoustics. During her PhD she worked on the structure and function of call repertoires in birds, and how vocal communication mediates social behaviour within groups.

Iván is interested in the natural variation in avian life-histories, particularly avian adaptations to migration, and the way in which different costly life-history stages (i.e. moulting, breeding and migration) trade off against each other within the annual cycle of birds.
