Jessica completed her Bachelor’s degree in Zoology at UCC in 2014, developing an interest in ornithology. She completed her MSc in Ecological Assessment in 2015 also from UCC.  After completing her MSc she spent a year working as an Education Officer in Fota Wildlife Park, teaching Ecology to Leaving and Junior Certificate students. Following from this she has undertaken a PhD with Prof. John Quinn, investigating the sustainability of hunting regarding Woodcocks.

Research Interests

Jessica’s current research will focus on the distribution of woodcock in relation to habitat, the effects of climate variables and grassland intensification on breeding range and the impact of hunting on resident and migrant populations to quantify the extent to which shooting mortality is additive to other winter mortality.
